Many of these are reviewed below in their order in the Periodic Table: The incorporation of other transition metals into steel has strengthening and resistance effects that further improve the suitability of different steels for structural and non-structural applications. For iron this is the conversion from Fe(0) to the iron (III) oxidation state, which is explained more here (link to corrosion page) The natural tendency for pure metals to revert to their native (ore) oxidation state represents the continuous battle for industry against the effects of corrosion. Iron is arguably the most well-known transition metal for its biological necessity and as the principal element in steel, which is an alloy of iron and carbon. Transition metals and corrosion mitigation Transition metals also have high melting points and boiling points when compared to the softer alkali metals of the Periodic Table. The whole set of transition metals can be seen in the Periodic Table below:Ĭorrosionpedia Explains Transition MetalsĪs a result of their d-shell electronic structures, the transition metals exhibit many different chemical properties including the formation of co-ordination compounds (complexes) as well as functioning as catalysts through their oxidation-reduction behavior. In order of increasing atomic mass and appearance in the table, these are: scandium, titanium, vanadium, chromium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper and finally zinc. The top row ('the 3d elements') contains metallic elements that are most familiar. There are four rows of transition metals in the Periodic Table. Transition metals also form alloys, which is significant in corrosion mitigation, and are ductile and malleable too. They don't react readily with water and oxygen (unlike the alkali metals of the Periodic Table) but will react with oxygen at elevated temperatures. Transition metals in their pure form are generally corrosion resistant, owing to the fact that they can form stable oxide layers on the surface. They are defined by their electronic structures incorporating d-shell electrons and they are known for their ability to exhibit and move between different oxidation states as a result. Those two orbitals can use the electrons to bond with other atoms.A transition metal is one of a group of 40 metallic chemical elements in the Periodic Table. Example: Molybdenum (Mo), with 42 electrons. Whenever you have a shell that is not happy, the electrons want to bond with other elements. Why can they do that? As you learn more, you will discover that most transition elements actually have two shells that are not happy. It's a chemical trait that allows them to bond with many elements in a variety of shapes. Transition metals can use the two outermost shells/orbitals to bond with other elements. Most elements can only use electrons from their outer orbital to bond with other elements. You will find it's usually 2, 8, 18 or 32 for the maximum number of electrons in an orbital. No shell can have more than 32 electrons. Something like gold (Au), with an atomic number of 79, has an organization of 2-8-18-32-18-1. The transition metals are able to put up to 32 electrons in their second-to-last shell. You need to remember that those electrons are added to the second-to-last shells. This is the point in the periodic table where you can place more than 8 electrons in a shell. Scandium (Sc) is only 3 spots away with 21 electrons, but it has a configuration of 2-8-9-2. It has 18 electrons set up in a 2-8-8 order. Transition metals are able to put more than eight electrons in the shell that is one in from the outermost shell. Not all of them, but we are sure you've seen pictures of silver (Ag), gold (Au), and platinum (Pt). You will usually find that transition metals are shiny, too. They have a lot of electrons and distribute them in different ways. Transition metals are good examples of advanced shell and orbital ideas. We like introducing students to the first eighteen elements, because they are easier to explain. It all has to do with their shells/orbitals. Let's start off by telling you that there are a lot of elements that are considered transition metals.

What does this mean? Are these people gone for good? Are they trapped in the Soul Stone? Can the remaining Avengers save them? Rules: 0. The Mad Titan Thanos has snapped half of all life in the universe. Other scenes could change for different reasons IMO but we can leave that for another post.Ĭlint & Natasha taking the Milano doesn’t make any sense Some dialog would change when they meet Thanos. Obviously the scene with 2014 Thanos would be cut. Just as the avengers are snapping Thanos and his army are appearing on earth. The army begins to disappear from this realm.ĭeath: “you only get this one shot, don’t fail me again.” Death screams as she gives all the power she has. Thanos is now wearing his complete armor and the children of Thanos stand with him. The scene continues.ĭeath: “remember as soon as they have the stones back you need to attack immediately.” “send me back, I can stop them.”ĭeath: ”not so fast, let them collect the stones for us. Thanos smiles as his army appears behind him, ship included. Thanos: “I was wrong to fair to the universe, as long as there are those who remember what was, they will be unable to see what could be.”ĭeath: “I agree.” She moves around to look him closely in the eyes nearly touching noses.ĭeath: “not so fast love, maybe you can do better the second time.”Īs death runs her hand down his cheek his body is fully restored. She still clings closely to Thanos, whispering in his ear. Thanos shows less translucent and the scars are less visible. When stark figures out the time travel device the scene returns to Thanos and death.Ī fully formed death shows a thin beautiful woman dressed in black thin robes. As the camera looks through the mirror… Death: “Because you failed”ĥ - years - later. “Why?”Ī mirror appears in front of them that begins to show the world after his snap. “…especially you!”, she emphasizes.Īs Thanos raises his recovered hand he looks confused and turns to look at death in the face. She runs her hand down his arm and his missing hand begins to appear where it was missing. Thanos: “I finished what I sought to do, I am happy to rest.”ĭeath: “you misunderstand, no one rests here.” Death now moves to his front side. “no one is happy to meet me.” She gives the vibe of a lonely widow. “I do, it’s nice to finally meet you.”ĭeath seems intrigued. The Smokey figure begins to show a feminine figure forms behind Thanos, whispering in his ear. Thanos and death stand in the middle of the yard. Hands are reaching out of the crater all around. In the background we can see the palace and its yard stand alone on an island surrounded by a crater. As the camera pans around it zooms out to show Thanos having a deep scar across his neck, a shriveled arm, a deep gash in his chest and a missing hand. The background begins to illuminate more revealing a palace and a gate. The still feint voice grows louder and thin hand made of smoke creeps itself around and over his shoulder. Thanos takes a deep breath in then smiles slightly. He looks around at his surroundings and suddenly he hears a voice echo softly in the air like a whisper. Immediately after Thanos dies in the garden he is seen standing in complete darkness, feint light shows on his face. Escape the Ayuwoki Horror Fort is already scary enough as a creepypasta tale, but it is absolutely terrifying as a game. The jump scares will have you screaming your lungs out and the creepy sounds will make your heart race from the lingering feelings of fear and dread. A nightmare brought to lifeĮscape the Ayuwoki Horror Fort is like a frightful version of hide-and-seek but nevertheless, it is a thrilling game to play. The Ayuwoki, also referred to as Michael Jackson, is the titular monster from the steam game Escape The Ayuwoki. Your light footsteps from running away and the creaking of doors when they are opened or closed will not escape Ayuwoki’s ears. Be careful of the sounds you make because the ghoul has really sharp ears and can hear every sound you make. The moment you hear it, you make a run for it! Quickly find a good hiding place because it means that the Ayuwoki is nearby. You are to find just 1 key, make it to the main door, unlock it, and escape.Īnother important thing to remember is to listen for the creepy “Hee-hee!” sounds that the Ayuwoki makes. When he nears the player, you will hear him sing ´Hee Hee. The monster itself, is a parodic depiction of the late pop artist Michael Jackson, specifically his later career. The woman is forced to hide from ´him´ under the tables and behind chairs. Also, unlike in other similar horror-survival games like Granny and Slendrina, players do not need to find or collect various objects in order to escape. The Ayuwoki is a humanoid monster that stalks a woman (you, the player) in a rundown mansion. There is the saving grace of being able to hide under pieces of furniture and inside cabinets to avoid getting caught. With the dangers of being caught by Ayuwoki, players will have to be quick and stealthy in order to survive. Unfortunately, escaping is easier said than done because the main door is locked and the only way to open it is to find the key, which is hidden somewhere in the mansion. Escape The Ayuwoki Horror Fort is a free to play horror escapade simulator in which you will have. Your goal in this game is to basically escape Jackson’s mansion after being mysteriously kidnapped and brought there. Once you escape the fort prison, you will be able to forget the ayuwoki hee hee for a long time. Only turn off if you’re seriously struggling! I’m a sucker for how they look with the bloom on but the world light sources are the bigger performance impact with this enabled. Bloom impacts the majority of light sources in the game now, including lightsabers.Only adjust Quality and Cascades options if you’re still struggling. At 1080p, you’ll be hard-pushed to notice anything higher than 1536 for shadow resolution, and it’ll save a pile of GPU rendering. The biggest one you can adjust quickly for gains is the resolution. For example, there’s no real point having shadow map cascades very high if your shadow quality and resolution are set to low. It’s usually best to adjust these in tandem.Light and Shadow Options – Enhanced Shadows, Shadow Quality, Shadow Map Resolution, Shadow Map Cascades, Bloom. So, where is the sweet spot for specifications in Star Wars: The Old Republic? Let’s take a quick look at some of the options: You’ll get no great texture improvements outside of some of the newer areas, and you’ll struggle even with an RTX 2080 Ti. Although you can play at 1440p or 4K, keep in mind that the game was never designed for such high resolutions. Likewise, if you’re in a city environment, the shadow settings with the overall texture quality can have awful impacts (looking at you, Nar Shaddaa). Grass Quality and render distance often combine with shadow map quality and resolution to awful effect in open wild areas. SW:TOR is generally consistent with settings that pull down performance. There’s plenty of guide videos for graphics comparisons – clicking the image above will bring you to a great one from swtoristaĪlthough we’re going to be doing a new build below to get you playing on as tight a budget as possible, there’s a few things to keep in mind for your own builds. Star Wars: The Old Republic Graphics Settings (Balance to Your Setup) At this point in the game’s life, however, you’re not exactly going to see a huge re-work. What we do know is optimization of the engine (although improved over the years) still causes trouble. How much of this is the engine not handling multiple player animations and effects, versus how much of this is server performance issues, we might never know. Anyone who has played the game for any length of time will tell you one thing: performance is worse in PvP. The Dark Side of the Engine (PvP Performance)Īlthough we’re going to gear the build below toward PvE performance, we need to mention PvP performance issues. So now, years later, it’s very surreal coming back and taking a dive into the engine performance. As I’ve been into building PCs for a long time, back then I would often give advice on the very subject of this article. There’s even some of my stuff still online, almost 5 years after I stopped. Those who know my history will know that once upon a time I was a top streamer for this game. Yet behind the scenes, there was trouble brewing.īefore I get into this much further, I have a small caveat. It was hyped like you wouldn’t believe the early tests of the starter planets went well and the press had already dubbed it a potential WoW Killer. Although heavily customized, The Old Republic is still classed as a Hero Engine game.Īlmost 10 years ago, The Old Republic had one of those crazy, once-in-a-generation launches. I found that her and an employee (33m) of ours, we own a business together, had exchanged nearly 2000 text messages in the last few weeks. This set off some red flags and I clicked on the link to see what was going on. That seemed crazy, as she is not the type that is glued to her phone. While logged into the usage I saw my wife had 3000+ text message this month. We've been going over on our data plan, so I logged into our cell account to see where we were at. In the past we've had a very active sex life, and I would never imagine her capable of it. However, one thing I never thought I would ever have to worry about was infidelity. I won't bore you with all the details but stress at work and stress at home has taken it's toll. Our first year of marriage has been tough. My wife and I have been together for 9 years, married for 1. Advice? Just trying to vent? I'll try to keep it as short as possible. This is why Tailscale support is important and should be incorporated into the My Cloud Home firmware. Tailscale could also allow the remote access of My Cloud Home without using Western Digital servers which could be shut down without much notice as we saw in early April, 2023. Incorporating Tailscale as described above for generalized remote access through any supported OS (iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, Linux) and non-WD third party mobile apps.WD Discovery from the desktop (WD Discovery is being deprecated by June, 2023, although as of early July it is still working).Remote operation with multiple files and folders can be done currently by using either: This original thread is more about copying a ‘shared a folder to my friend’ which is a remote operation because his friend is most likely not in the same location as the My Cloud Home and has no access to the USB port. Thank you for the screen post which describes copying multiple files and folders in a local USB accessible environment. After you can select to copy from My Cloud Home device to the USB. Then go to the menu on the left and select “Copy USB” (see screenshot). Those M圜loud Home drives are so utterly useless I didnt even wanna sell them on, I just cracked them open, took out the only well working thing, which is the harddrives and the rest of it went straight in to the bin. Yeah I know some of those things has been somewhat fixed by now, but it took years to make things the way they simply shouldve been from the start. Network access was there, except you couldnt assign a static driveletter for it aso the list goes on. Thats how it is all the way with those drives, everything is thjere, just except some crucial detail, like PLEX was added, great, except it wont take subfolders and hence it was useless. I ended up doing what ive been doing evéry time with those drives, using a workaround, where I added all the files (videos and pics) to the same album and then I was able to download the album, but simply selecting all the files didnt work, because it has some odd limit of how many files can be selected for download…yet another weirdo thing about their software. The reason it wont let me copy the whole private folder is because it wont let me access the folder locally, even though I went to the online control panel and set the username and password and used that to access it locally, then still I was being told that the folder wasnt accesible. My Synology DS220 is currently up and running and guess what wiseguy, its running with the 3 and 4 TB WD Red disks that I removed from my otherwise useless WD home cloud drives. Typically at 600 KBps for small files, 1.5 MBps for larger files which is near the limited upload speed for this 5G data plan.īelow is an example download of an entire fiolder from MCH to a remote Android mobile (5G data) via Tailscale subnet routing of MCH without using the My Cloud Home app or WDC relay servers Copy of Public LAN share is also possible, all remotely with mobile 5GUC data in this case. Tailscale is free for personal use.Īn example of My Cloud Home (MCH) mch4 private share tailscale copy (upload) remotely. But since WDD will no longer be further supported after June 2023, there must be a different solution and there is: This has been possible for a while now if you are familiar with Tailscale and its subnet routing functionality that allows native desktop file manager integration as well as mobile app support using any third party file manager such as Android ‘ File Manager +’ which has network SMB LAN support. This has always been possible with the desktop file manager integration of WD Discovery. Once i have shared a folder to my friend with some photos and he had to click at every single photo and download it. It will be really helpful, if it’s possible, to download multiple files or folders at once. It is widely accepted that the blood-ureic nitrogen to creatinine ratio (BCR) decreases in renal tubular lesions, but prospectively obtained clinical-histological evidence relating low BCR to AIN is lacking. Despite the many examined biomarkers, the gold standard continues to be percutaneous renal biopsy. Previous studies have evaluated novel biomarkers of AIN by analyzing markers of inflammation, interstitial edema, cellular damage, and tubular lesions however, their clinical utility remains unknown. Eosinophilia is only present in 10% of patients, thus resulting in poor diagnostic performance. The classic triad described for AIN presentation includes fever, dermatosis, and eosinophilia. Additionally, AIN could be a potential origin of chronic kidney disease from unidentified etiology. AIN has become increasingly relevant in acute and critical care settings over the last few years. Interstitial infiltrates predominantly contain lymphocytes and monocytes, but plasma cells, neutrophils, and histiocytes may also be present. AIN histopathology is characterized by interstitial inflammation and tubulitis. This study is the first to prospectively assess the relationship between renal biopsy results and BCR.Īcute interstitial nephritis (AIN) accounts for 13–27% of acute kidney injury (AKI) cases in hospitalized patients and is diagnosed in 13% of kidney biopsies performed for AKI. ConclusionĪ BCR ≤ 12 identifies AIN in patients with AKI. In the multivariable analysis, BCR was the sole variable associated with AIN. Additionally, in diagnosing AIN, BCR had a sensitivity of 76%, a specificity of 81%, a positive predictive value of 81%, a negative predictive value of 76%, and OR of 14 (95% CI = 2.6 to 75.7, p = 0.021). The optimal Youden point for classifying AIN via a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was a BCR ≤ 12 (AUC = 0.73, p = 0.024). There was a correlation between histology and the BUN/creatinine ratio (BCR) (r = -0.57, p = 0.001). Nineteen patients had histological findings consistent with AIN. Diabetes and hypertension were the main comorbidities. The study consisted of 42 patients (with a mean age of 45 years) and equal numbers of male and female patients. Prior to enrollment, each patient was assessed with a complete metabolic panel and a kidney biopsy. Methodsįor our prospective study, we recruited hospitalized patients aged 18 years and older who were diagnosed with AKI based on biochemical criteria. The objective of this study was to identify clinical and biochemical variables in patients with AKI associated with kidney biopsy-confirmed AIN. In hospitalized patients with acute renal injury (AKI), acute tubulointerstitial nephritis (AIN) constitutes one of the leading etiologies. Placental previa can be rapidly identified using ultrasound. Look for vertex positioning of the fetus (headfirst) and look for position of the placenta. 6g loading dose over 20 minutes, followed by 1-2g per hour based on serum creatinine.īedside ultrasound should be rapidly performed prior to any vaginal examination, in addition to patient history, so as to avoid examining a placenta previa or low-lying placenta which may result in vaginal bleeding. If elevated BP plus one of these is present, the patient requires prompt magnesium drip even as delivery is occurring. Ask the patient if she has hand or facial edema. Further check for degree of proteinuria, headache, blurry vision, chest or epigastric or RUQ pain are suggestive of preeclampsia. If SBP >140 or DBP >90, have a high suspicion for preeclampsia in the patient who does not have previously diagnosed chronic hypertension. Any fever on assessment could be an intra-amniotic infection and obviously requires immediate antibiotic therapy.ĭetermine rupture of membranes: if convinced the patient has ruptured the amniotic membrane, and if this occurred >18 hours, start antibiotic coverage ASAP. GBS Prophylaxis: If you think the patient is 37 weeks, or you have their due date in the EMR, then antibiotics are unnecessary. Ask about penicillin allergies (relevant for GBS prophylaxis). Medical/Obstetric problems: ask about previous c-sections (prior classical incisions on the skin carry an ~8% future risk of rupture), any present pregnancy fetal anomalies, maternal bleeding issues, preeclampsia, gestational or chronic hypertension, placental abruption. For the record, ectopic pregnancies do not count. “ Florida Power And Light ( Full term, Pre-term, Abortions, Living)”. Any fetus born 20w0d, summarized below): remember this cool mnemonic for asking about G’s and P’s. GA is critical because it prepares you for how to anticipate the type of delivery and the neonatal care needed. Simplifying this more, if palpable above the umbilicus, then the pregnancy is likely >20 weeks. This method works best in those with a body habitus that allows this form of measuring. For example, if you measure using your fingertip 24 cm above the pubic symphysis at the uterine fundus, the pregnancy is ~24 weeks in gestational age. Let’s say you are unable to talk to the patient due to their clinical condition or language barrier palpate the abdomen for the uterine fundus. These are all over the internet and ( ACOG Calculator). Gestational age: if only the estimated due date or the last menstrual cycle is available, you can use a calculator to find the current age. Rapid OB/GYN history: you can do this fast and it helps you understand any prior issues the mother may have had. Don’t forget to call pediatrics (neonatology is preferred if available). Calling for help is quite obvious to anyone who is not an obstetrician. Hitherto, you are stuck managing this situation. Head flexion and descent internal rotation extension external rotation delivery of anterior shoulder delivery of posterior shoulderįirst step: Call for help. “Call for transfer” is more likely to be the first option considered by many EM physicians, but this review assumes the mother is active labor (see below for details what that means). Precipitous delivery = labor no more than 3 hours from the onset of regular contractions.Ĭardinal movements of the fetus during the birth process are commonly tested on EM boards. If you are working in any ED, there is a high chance in your career at some point you will manage an unexpected labor & delivery, often with no OB/GYN available. You can read more about him at the end of the review. Briggs (senior) is an MFM specialist with >25 years of community experience. We wanted to make sure we covered the most up-to-date information, so we asked a friend to join us. This review serves as a guide to the emergency physician in managing precipitous labor. Infants died in droves, and maternal morbidity & mortality was substantial. It is interesting to think for tens of thousands of years we delivered babies outside the hospital setting prior to the advent of modern medicine, but this was not without cost. In the majority of cases, all goes well and thankfully mother and baby have good outcomes. Want to experience the greatest in board studying? Check out our interactive question bank podcast- the FIRST of its kind here: Įven in the US, hundreds of deliveries per year occur precipitously in emergency departments and even outside the hospital setting. As long as shifts are separated by more than a regular break period, then it’s a split shift. For example, a server might work a breakfast shift then come back for dinner hours. Pros: Because your restaurant won’t be understaffed or overstaffed, you can actually save money on labor costs and wages (ka-ching)! Employees will also have more flexibility over their schedules.Ĭons: Your employees may not appreciate those last minute requests for their assistance, especially if they have ongoing personal obligations.Ī split shift occurs when staff members divide their shifts into two or more parts throughout the day. This is often the case for managers who may need one or more servers during unexpected rushes or when an employee calls out before their assigned shift. On-call shift strategies are exactly what they sound like: staff members are called in when they’re needed. And you wouldn’t want a sluggish bartender messing up a standard margarita order! You’ll evenly spread out shifts, improve employee relationships, and establish a flexible working environment.Ĭons: Some employees may find it difficult to adjust between certain shifts, e.g, morning and night shifts. Pros: If you operate a 24/7 restaurant, then a rotating practice is a bullseye hit. Other rotating practices may involve an employee working three days shifts and one night shift at the end of the week. Employees can switch with others between lunch and dinner shifts on a weekly or monthly basis. You certainly wouldn’t want to be sending those on-call texts to employees binge-watching Netflix on their day off!Ī rotating shift is one in which staff members rotate between shifts on a set schedule. Understaffed restaurants face these challenges during rush hours, which makes it difficult to staff up at the last minute. Managers rarely have to change their scheduling practices, unless they’re accommodating for sudden staff changes or on-site demands.Ĭons: There’s not a lot of room for flexibility in a fixed schedule. Pros: Employees can count on predictable hours which allows them to attend to other personal needs, such as doctor appointments, childcare needs, and school. Not to mention, adjustments are rarely needed. Managers often rely on a fixed schedule to establish consistency and stability among staff. Each one comes with benefits and drawbacks, so examine them thoroughly before deciding on a strategy to address staffing challenges.Ī fixed shift schedule involves having employees work the same shifts repeatedly. There are several shift options you can select for your restaurant schedule template. Not to mention, your competitors will always be on the hunt for dissatisfied employees who feel as if they are not valued or treated fairly. Think of this as a sort of domino effect. Without a schedule, you run the risk of employee burnout, customer dissatisfaction, and high turnover. An established scheduling practice will result in a content staff and higher productivity rates.īartenders, servers, hosts, and cooks can all benefit from a schedule that allows them to attend to their personal needs while remaining efficient in their operation. We’ll cover some of the best shift practices you can rely on for your restaurant schedule and even share a restaurant schedule template.Īs you read this, you might be thinking, “Shouldn’t my employees be willing to put aside their personal obligations and commit to my business?” Well, it’s not that simple. If you want to avoid those late-night frustrated texts from your staff (and we know you do), then sit back, grab a notepad, and read on. They ensure that day-to-day services run smoothly, maintain high inventory, provide customer satisfaction in a highly competitive landscape, and lots more-like making, and maintaining the restaurant schedule.ĭeveloping a schedule that accounts for the desires of restaurant staff can go a long way in resolving long-term concerns, increasing on-floor productivity, and above all else, reducing restaurant turnover rates. Restaurant managers have a lot on their plate. |
