Most people dont want to spend the extra on this size PVC, its just not very cost effective, and its harder to find the exact pieces you want as its not as readily used. So: inch and a quarter is the sweet spot for a return pump to optimize efficiency of flow. 1.5" will have less turbulence and less head pressure, but its not as big a jump as it is going from 3/4" to 1" or from 1" to 1.25". the ideal pipe diameter for lowest turbulence related head pressure is 1.25" you can go bigger, but the gains aren't as big. You want to go with the biggest diameter pipe you realisitically can. Thanks in advance!Īll I can comment on here is the return portion. So what size return pipe do I use? I am quite confused at this point and would greatly appreciate some insight. So my question is what size drain pipes and return pipes should I be using? Because the drains are 3/4" in my overflow box, I should use 3/4" drains then? I also read somewhere that 3/4" hole drains 400gph on gravity alone.so will that achieve 1200gph in my case? I've tried emailing Modular Marine but have not heard back in 2 days.Īnd my Mag 12 return pump says to use minimum internal diameter of 1.5" for maximum flow, even though the outlet is 3/4". 50lbs of wet live rock (11.99/lb at Big Al's).40lbs of dry purple live rock with Coraline (recommended at Big Al's at $8.99 CAD/lb).Danner 1200gph Mag 12 pump with 3/4" outlet.I am aiming for 10x turnover and have about 4' from sump to display tank plus 2 elbows.one 45 and one 90 degree. I noticed that the 3 drains in overflow box are 3/4" and I plan to be setting up Bean Animal PVC plumbing to my Eshopps RS-100 20 gallon sump that has a 1" bulkhead for drain. ***I just drilled 2x 1.5" bulkheads for 1200 gph Modular Marine low profile overflow box: Hey guys, I'm new to the reef hobby and have done a bunch of research to set up the following reef tank: /u/dailyapplecrisp's Fish Harmony (compatibility).Posts created only for self promotion or to promote a business you are affiliated with must be clearly marked in the post title or they wil be removed.
